Analysis of Technology Requirements of Major Corporations

This project was carried out for the Alberta Research Council. It involved interviewing, as part of a three-membered team, the presidents of twelve national and multinational corporations to determine the role of technology in their business plans, and the expected impact of future technological changes. Companies were found to have differing perspectives on technology, ranging from "our business determines what technology we require, to "technology determines what business we are in". As a result of this project, different strategies were developed to use when approaching companies for contract R&D, including consortia R&D, R&D contracts, staff secondments and training programs.
