Falconbridge Limited undertook a major strategic analysis of its technology development system, seeking to identify new technology thrusts and to reposition the organization to more effectively deliver the current and future technology requirements of the Company. As part of this process, the Consultant carried out a critical review on how R&D organizations of major companies have evolved during the past several decades. Organizational structures and best practices were identified which have delivered quality technology processes and products, in a timely fashion and at minimum cost. Recommendations were made on how to adapt the Falconbridge technology delivery system to capture the benefits of leading industrial practices.
