Syllabus
The course will cover (roughly) the following sections from the text: 2.1-2.4, 2.6, 4.2-4.7, 7.2-7.9, 8.2-8.5, 10.1-10.5
Grading
The grade is based on lab work (10%), homework (10%), a midterm exam (30%), and a final exam (50%). Grades will primarily be based on comparison with the long time average performance in the course. In particular, an overall mark of 50% or more guarantees a grade of at least D, and an overall course mark of 90% or more guarantees a grade of at least A-.
Labs
Labs begin January 14, 2013.
Homework
There will be weekly homework assignments. The assignments must be placed into
the marked box on the second floor of CAB before the due date; late
assignments are not accepted.
Suggested Problems: Section 10.5: 2, 4, 8, 10, 14. These
problems will not be collected and will not be marked.
Exams
Midterm:Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 16:00 in NRE 1-001. (Students who miss the
midterm with an excused absence will have the weight of the exam transferred
to the final.)
Final:Monday, April 15, 2013, at 14:00 in the
Universiade Pavillon, rows 13 and 15. (Students who miss the
final and obtain a formal university accepted excuse for their absence in
writing, may apply for a deferred exam in their Faculty Office. If approved,
the students may write a deferred exam on Saturday, May 4,
2013; the students should meet CAB 357 at 8:30 in the
morning.)
Formula sheets and calculators or other electronic aids will not be
allowed.
Resources
The Decima Robinson Support Centre in CAB 528 and is open 9:00-15:00 on every
working day. In particular, it offers drop-in help-sessions for students in
200-level mathematics courses.
