Second International Workshop on Scientific Computing and
Applications
May 28-June 1, 2000
Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada
The second International Workshop on Scientific Computing and Applications
will continue the tradition of the highly successful workshop held at the
City University of Honk Kong in December 1998. The aim is to bring
together mathematicians, scientists and engineers working in the field
of scientific computing and its applications to solve scientific and industrially
oriented problems and to provide a forum for the participants to meet and
exchange ideas of common interest in an informal atmosphere. The
goal of the workshop will be twofold. On one hand it will focus on the
fundamental methods and algorithms for solving PDE's and linear systems
of equations. On the other hand, it will try to attract the attention of
the industrial community to present and discuss the applications of scientific
computing in practical problems. The theoretical topics of interest are
(but not limited to): Finite Element, Finite Volume Element and Finite
Volume Methods for partial differential equations, splitting techniques
and stabilized methods, iterative solvers and preconditioning techniques
for large scale systems, methods for systems with a special structure,
parallel algorithms and performance analysis. The applications will be
focussed on numerical simulations in the oil and chemical industries, aerodynamics
and environmental studies.

Program:
The preliminary program of the workshop is available in a PDF format
here
.
Proceedings:
The Organizing Committee plans to publish the proceedings of the workshop
in the Nova Science Books and Journals series "Advances in Computation:
Theory and Practice".
The conditions for publication are:
Paper size - about 8 pages, Acceptable formats - Latex (you can download the
recommended Latex macros here); or MS Word (make it as close as possible
to the SIAM Latex style).
The deadline for the draft papers (for review purposes) is June 1, 2000.
You will be notified for the outcome of the review by the end of June
and may be required to introduce some changes. Please note that the final
version of your paper should be available to the editors by the end of July.
Location:
The workshop will take place in the Kananaskis
Inn & Conference Centre which is located in the beautiful
Canadian Rockies, near the picturesque town of Banff. The special
discounted price for the participants is $90 CAD (plus tax) for a single
room. Please, book a room as soon as possible because there is only a limited
number of rooms available. When booking indicate that you are a participant
in the International Workshop on Scientific Computing and Applications.
The only other possibility for accomodation in the neighbourhood is the
Lodge at Kananaskis, a part of the Delta
hotels ; phone: 1-800-441-1414 (toll-free, Canada and US), 1-506-863-6310
(all other countries).
Transportation:
The nearest international airport is the Calgary airport. A bus service
from the airport to Kananaskis is provided by Brewster
. The organizing committee arranged a schedule for the
transportation of each of the participants.
Please check it and in case that the information concerning you is not
correct please inform the organizers. ?? in some of the boxes means "missing
information".
