Tuneling
How to tunnel other services
Here's how to tunnel lpd and cvs on
UNIX systems.
The SSH FAQ describes
how to tunnel other common TCP services. For an example, see this
setup
for Windows 95/98/NT and Unix.
Other RPC services, such as NIS, can also be tunneled with the sec_rpc package.
Sometimes there are simpler alternatives to tunneling.
For FTP, one can use the sftp client that comes with
SSH and
OpenSSH. On UNIX systems, POP can be
replaced with scp by using the scripts loopmail and
scpmail on the client and
servemail and appendfile
on the mail server.
If your machine cannot accept incoming ssh connections, try this version
instead: scpmailin (which does not attempt to make
a reverse connection).
