WAVE INTERACTION AND RESONANCE IN A
VAN DER WAALS GAS

Abstract. The method of multiple time scale is used to derive the transport equations for the amplitudes of resonantly interacting high frequency waves propagating into a Van der Waals gas. The evolutionary behavior of non-resonant wave modes culminating into shock waves is studied.
