SECOND ORDER WAVE FORCES
ON A PAIR OF CYLINDERS

Abstract. An approximate method is presented here for estimating the hydrodynamic forces to the second-order on a pair of bottom mounted, surface piercing circular cylinders in waves of arbitrary uniform depth. The theoretical results are based upon the large spacing approximation and the method involves replacing scattered diverging waves by plane waves. The theoretical results are presented to illustrate the influence of the various wave and structural parameters on the hydrodynamic forces on each of the cylinders. The amplification factors for the first and second order drift forces are computed and presented in tabular and graphical forms.
