CAIMS*SCMAI 2007 Travel Information
Visitor Information
Please check the Banff Centre website first. The following is a list of quick facts for
our participants.
Location of the Banff Centre
The Banff Centre is located in Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The spectacular beauty of the Canadian Rockies surrounds the campus. A ten minute stroll brings you to the bustling town of Banff. Banff is 128 kilometres (80 miles) west of Calgary, Alberta.
Getting to the Banff Centre
The nearest city served by major airlines is
Calgary. The general travel route is Calgary -> Town of Banff -> Banff Centre. Banff is on the Trans-Canada Highway that connects Alberta to to its neighboring provinces, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
Shuttle buses ( Banff Airporter and Brewster Transportation)
and rental cars are available from Calgary Airport to Banff. Allow two hours for travel time. We recommend the Banff Airporter, which can be booked ahead of time.
Be sure to take the direct Airporter, which does not stop in Canmore. This shuttle will deliver you to the Banff Centre or any other desired destination in Banff (it will pick you up from your location on your return trip).
There is no shuttle bus between the Banff Centre and downtown Banff. Taxi service is available from downtown Banff to the Banff Centre for less than $4.00 one way. The Centre is 15-30 minutes walk from downtown Banff, but the walk is steadily uphill and can be physically challenging.
