Entrance
Scholarships
There are no applications for entrance scholarships. The Department may nominate applicants who
have been admitted to the graduate program for the following awards throughout the application
period:
University of Alberta
Master's Scholarship
- Thesis-based
Masters Scholarship
- For Canadian and International Students
- September Admission
- $15,000
- Includes Tuition and Fees for one year
- Offer of 1/2-time Teaching Assistantship
- Course-based
Masters Scholarship
- For Canadian and International Students
- September Admission
- $12,000
- Includes Tuition and Fees for one year
- Offer of 1/2-time Teaching Assistantship

Alberta PhD Scholarship

NSERC Awards
The Department deadline for NSERC Awards is at the end of September
each year. Applications are available from the NSERC website at http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/.
NSERC awards are for
Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada only. Apply
online and print a paper copy of the application. The paper copy
and official transcripts must be submitted to the Graduate Secretary by
the Department deadline of October 2.
- NSERC
recipients must inform the Department Graduate Secretary of their award
- NSERC
recipients are allowed to have a maximum 1/4 Teaching Assistantship
- NSERC
recipients are not allowed a Summer Research Assistantship
- NSERC
recipients may apply for the Walter H. Johns Honorary
Scholarship. The application is available on the Faculty of
Graduate Studies and Research website. This award will be printed
on the recipient's transcript
- First
time award recipients will be given an additional Faculty of Science
Graduate Scholarship of $2,000
- First
time award recipients will be given an additional Josephine Mitchell
Scholarship of $3,000
- Award
recipients who are renewing their award must fill out the NSERC Renewal
Form located on the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research
website. This form must be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate
Studies and Research by the end of their first award time period

The Department deadline for General Awards is mid-January of each
year. Applications and further information is available from the FGSR website.
